Position Paper on Primary Care
29. October 2026 | Publikation
What might a healthcare system look like that is geared towards people’s actual needs? In our new position paper, we advocate for the establishment of primary care centres (PVZs) geared towards the common good. In these centres, various health and social care professionals work together as equals, combining medical, psychological, nursing and social support under one roof.
PVZs should also address the social determinants of health, improve health outcomes and empower people in the local community. This requires a statutory framework, adequate funding and organisations dedicated to the common good, rather than profit-driven models.
Our experience from projects such as GeKo Neukölln, the Veddel Polyclinic and the NAVIGATION Innovation Fund project shows that solidarity-based, interprofessional primary care is both possible and necessary.

Health as a Public Good – A Concept for Socially Organised Primary Care
The concept paper ‘Health as a Common Good’ was developed through dialogue between members of our organisation and those of communia e. V. As a think tank, communia e. V. develops strategies for a democratic economy. We are united by the conviction that good healthcare can only be achieved where it is guided by the common good, organised democratically and tailored to people’s real needs.
